Court awaiting forensic report over priest's death
The trial for the murder of Father Lionel Sham, who was abducted from his church in March after officiating at a wedding ceremony in Randfontein, has been moved to the Johannesburg High Court.
Sham's body was found two days later in the veld at Orange Farm.
The 23-year-old suspect, Velaphi Phillip Malgas, on Friday appeared at the Randfontein Magistrate's Court, where prosecutor Adele Britz requested that the case be tried in the high court while the State awaited a forensic report.
Malgas was arrested after allegedly crashing Sham's car in Deneysville, Free State, where another 20-year-old suspect was also killed. Sham apparently knew both men.
