Pope Benedict's eyes:. PLEASE OF YOUR CHARITY, PRAY THAT HIS EYESIGHT BE PRESERVED..

Some of us have been aware for a long time that the Pope's sight in his left eye has deteriorated consideraby. Today he suddenly confessed to the Angelus crowd that he couldn't see the papers he was reading to them. I don't think it was merely that he had 'lost his place' in the text.  In an interview some time ago Monsignor  Marini referred to the problem in typically quiet and undramatic manner.  Now is the time for our fervent prayers for our beloved Holy Father. Media tricks and deliberate mischief are one thing, but loss of sight is quite another.

When I first saw Pope Benedict very close in September 2005 I was aware that he couldn't focus well with his left eye. His eyesight has deteriorated as one would expect. His brother has been almost blind for years. We must pray for our Benedict's dear eyes. He would be lost without the ability to read and write. Jesus mercy, Mary help!

My Dear Mary,

Yes, I know. 'Oremus' is the order of the day.

All love and prayers,

Prayers to St. Lucy, patron saint of eyes. She is one of the women listed among the saints in the Canon of the EF Mass. The list is usually truncated in the NO but, knowing she is there, it would be a good moment for us to appeal to her during our Sunday obligation.
One cannot imagine the loneliness and the burdens borne by a Pope. Benedict is the finest example of a man who submits wholly and with humility to what God asks of him.
May his clear-sightedness in every sense of the word be preserved.
