Thanks to Sandy for responding so quickly with the information that according to Diane who authors 'Te Deum Laudamus!', the Cardinal sent a fax from Rome soon after his audience with Pope Benedict. How Diane got hold of this fax (or part of it) is beyond me, but the text reprinted on her blog is still equivocal and doesn't really amount to a proper apology.
